With the recent, much-publicised Robbie Williams Britpop Tour filling stadiums across Europe and beyond, we couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia for one of our own big stadium moments with the pop icon at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. As we celebrate 120 years of Masons Moving Group, it’s the perfect time to look back at one of our most challenging and rewarding projects — one that involved not only Robbie Williams, but also the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final! This Cardiff removals Principality Stadium project tested our planning, precision, and problem-solving skills to the limit, proving just how much our team can achieve under pressure.
Let us take you behind the scenes of one of the most demanding logistics operations we’ve ever undertaken, and show you exactly why the Masons team has been a trusted name in removals for over a century!
The Brief: Large-Scale Stadium Logistics in Cardiff Principality Stadium
The scene: 3 June 2017. The eyes of the sporting world were on Cardiff as the city hosted the UEFA Champions League Final. To accommodate international broadcasting requirements, over 5,000 seats in the Principality Stadium had to be removed, and fast, to make room for commentary boxes and cameras.
But there was a catch.
Just 18 days later, on 21 June, Robbie Williams Principality Stadium was due to perform to a sold-out crowd at the same venue. That meant every single one of those 5,000+ seats needed to be returned in exactly the same order — a task fit only for seasoned removal and storage companies.
This is where our Cardiff removals Principality Stadium experience came into play.
Not Just Any Move: The Challenge for Cardiff Removal Firms
This wasn’t your average removal company job. The project required:
- Precision removal across multiple Principality Stadium seating plan levels
- Colour-coded and numbered inventory
- Secure, short term self storage for signage and components
- Timelines dictated by back-to-back Principality Stadium events
- Expert coordination and communication
Project Manager at Electranet needed a Cardiff removal company that could handle every element — with military precision.
After reviewing several moving companies in Cardiff, they turned to the experienced hands at Masons Moving Group.

Despite the immense challenge, the atmosphere on-site was unforgettable.
One of our veteran porters at the time shared:
“You just wouldn’t believe the prep that goes into these events. We saw guys abseiling to jet-wash the stadium, lighting technicians setting up for pitch visuals… all while tours were still running! It was surreal – and incredible.”
The team even got to meet rugby legend Gareth Edwards!
