How one powerful night at Cardiff City Stadium brought people together to make a difference. A Llamau fundraising event to remember.

On Thursday, October 9th, over a hundred people gathered at Cardiff City Stadium armed with determination and ready to spend the night outdoors for Sleep On It, an impactful charity sleep-out organised and hosted by the V3 Group for its second year running.

The goal? To raise vital funds for Llamau, a proudly Welsh charity dedicated to ending homelessness before it begins.

Touched by this incredible fundraising event, Masons Moving Group were proud to get involved, donating all the cardboard used for the sleeping challenge.

As a company deeply rooted in community values, Masons believe in supporting local charity events that help transform lives across Wales.

To learn more about this incredible Llamau fundraising event and the impact of the funds raised, we spoke with Barbara Redmore, Corporate Partnership Manager at Llamau.

A Night of Solidarity and Purpose

“The Sleep On It challenge, organised by Clair Thomas-Poulton from the V3 Group, was an amazing success,” Barbara shared. “We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up to support the event. We estimate that we raised around £20,000 once the match funding comes in!”

Llamau as the beneficiary of the event understands just how transformative these funds will be.

“They will be used on vital front-line services that will be life-transforming for people we support,” Barbara explained. “For example, services like our in-house counselling, which offers people quick and timely support to process trauma, or family mediation, which helps families in crisis stay together where it’s safe and appropriate to do so.”

For Barbara, events like Sleep On It are about much more than raising money.

“A Llamau fundraising event like this is crucial for raising awareness and support across Wales,” she said. “They help us engage with new audiences and maintain loyalty from existing supporters. They give us a chance to share the work we’re doing here in Wales and this year, a Llamau Ambassador for Learning spoke about how the charity had supported him since the age of 15.”

That personal story of resilience and hope reminded everyone why they were there: to stand in solidarity with those who don’t have a safe place to sleep.

The expected £20,000 raised this year includes match funding, which is a process that amplifies donations and maximises impact.

“Some of the companies who support us fundraise individually, and their company then allows them to apply for match funding,” Barbara explained. “So, if a person raises £500, their company will give Llamau another £500. It’s an easy and effective way to ensure we make the most of every effort.”

The atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium was both lively and deeply moving.

“All the people who attended came because they wanted to make a difference,” said Barbara. “We had around 130 people sign up this year. While there was live music and entertainment, the real purpose was to sleep out in recognition of those who sadly can’t sleep in. There was such poignancy and purpose in what we were achieving together.”

“It wasn’t easy, but that was the point.”

“The hardest part of the Sleep On It Llamau fundraising event was definitely sleeping out, but it was also the most rewarding,” Barbara reflected. “Many people told us afterwards that it gave them a tiny glimpse into what homelessness in Wales can feel like for thousands of people.”

For nearly four decades, Llamau has worked tirelessly to support young people and vulnerable women experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Founded in 1986, the homelessness charity has helped over 100,000 people rebuild their lives.

Llamau’s mission is simple yet powerful: to end homelessness before it begins.

By focusing on early identification, intervention, and prevention, they tackle the root causes of homelessness in Wales, working with schools, families, and communities to create lasting change.

“Providing safe homes and safe futures is at the heart of everything we do,” said Barbara.

“At Llamau, we understand that access to safe, supportive housing is crucial for creating positive outcomes. That’s why we are committed to offering safe accommodation to women and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

“We create environments that foster security and stability, allowing individuals to regain their confidence and build a foundation for success.

Through programmes like Moving On, Llamau helps individuals transition into independent living, providing guidance and resources that empower young people and women to sustain themselves confidently in their own homes, laying a path for long-term, stable futures.

“In essence,” Barbara added, “Llamau works tirelessly to ensure that when homelessness does occur, it’s rare, brief, and non-recurrent—and that people don’t face it alone.”

Homelessness Prevention & Awareness

Even though Sleep On It is over for this year, the fight against homelessness continues, and everyone can play a part.

“Those who want to support us can volunteer, donate, and raise awareness!” Barbara said. “We always encourage people to reach out, visit our website, or follow us on social media to see how they can make a difference.”

The Power of Partnership

The partnership between V3 Group and Llamau continues to grow stronger each year.

“This is V3’s event in aid of Llamau, so they organised the whole thing,” Barbara explained. “They promoted it to their colleagues, many of whom joined us that night.

This is the second Sleep On It, and participation doubled this year, so we can’t wait to see what 2026 brings!”

That passion and dedication are clear when speaking with Clair Thomas-Poulton, who leads the initiative within the V3 Group.

“Having worked with Llamau last year, when they were our charity of the year, we built up an amazing relationship with Barbara, Mike and Denise,” Clair shared.

“Throughout the year we organised several Llamau fundraising events, including our annual Row424Hrs challenge in May, the Muddy Assault Course, the Caerphilly 10K, and Christmas Wrapping, along with managing the very first Sleep On It.”

One moment that stood out to Clair was when V3 purchased 25 tickets for the Hamilton production at the Wales Millennium Centre.

“I went with the young people and carers to see the show, and it was so humbling,” she said. “Many of them had never been to a theatre before, and to see their joy at the end of the performance will stay with me forever.”

It’s clear that for Clair and her team, this partnership is about more than fundraising, it’s about connection, compassion, and creating experiences that matter.

“Because of the great relationship we’ve built with Llamau, it was important for us to continue working with them even though we have new charities for 2025,” Clair explained. “The first Sleep On It event was a huge success, we had over 50 sleepers and raised nearly £20,000 with match funding. We wanted to make it an annual occasion, and this year we had approximately 130 sleepers, which was incredible. Our aim is to be even bigger and better next year, so watch this space!”

Fundraising events like Sleep On It show the power of community. The way people, businesses, and organisations can come together to make a lasting difference. At Masons Moving Group, we’re proud to have played a small part in this incredible night of compassion and homelessness awareness. Because when communities unite, real change happens, and together we can help end homelessness in Wales.
