Two Months Out: Ready, Set, Prep!

  • Book Your Move: Get quotes & secure your moving date with us as early as possible.
  • Packing Services: Decide if you’ll need expert packing services. 
  • Get Supplies: Purchase all your packing & storage materials. Compare prices at our online store.

One Month Out: Pack & Purge

  • Declutter: Donate, sell, or recycle items you don’t need.
  • Start Packing: Begin with non-essential items. Label boxes clearly. If using our expert packers, you don’t have to worry about packing. We handle everything!
  • Self-Storage: Consider storing excess items. Get quotes & secure a unit if needed. Find out more about our self storage facilities here. 
  • Kids & Pets: Arrange childcare & pet care for moving day.

Three Weeks Out: Spread the Word

  • Notify Services: Update your address with the local council, DVLA, HMRC, bank, insurance, phone, internet, gas, & electricity providers.
  • TV Licence: Transfer it to your new address.
  • Landline: Redirect your number.
  • Redirect Mail: Set up mail redirection with the Post Office
  • Council Tax: Arrange payments with your new local council.
  • Healthcare: Register with new doctors & dentists if you’re moving to a different area.
  • Friends & Family: Inform them of your new address. Update online shops, mail orders, & subscription services.
  • Car Prep: Service your vehicle & check tyres if travelling a long distance.

Two Weeks Out: The Home Stretch!

Start Here:

  • Confirm Move: Finalise your moving arrangements with the removals company.
  • Furniture: Dismantle self-assembly furniture unless we’ve arranged to do this for you. Assess which drawers can be moved full.

Don’t Overlook:

  • Fabrics: Treat stored fabrics with anti-moth solutions.
  • Appliances: Schedule professional disconnection of kitchen appliances, particularly your washing machine, to ensure the drum is secure for the move.

Important Reminders: If Applicable…

  • Clear Spaces: Empty loft or garage & dismantle sheds or greenhouses unless we’ve arranged to do this for you
  • Fuel: Drain fuel from lawn mowers or motorcycles.
  • Hazardous Items: Arrange separate transportation for dangerous substances.

Final Steps: Wrapping Up Week 2

  • Metre: Schedule readings for gas, electricity, telephone, & water metres.
  • ‘Do Not Move’ Area: Designate a spot for essentials like keys, mobile devices, tools, cleaning supplies, & coats.
  • Clean as You Pack: Tidy up your home while packing.

One Week Out: The Final Countdown

  • Packing Wrap-Up: Ensure your packing is nearly complete.
  • Fixtures & Fittings: List what stays behind. Remove any you’re taking, including disconnecting light fittings.
  • Neighbourly Consideration: Ask your neighbours to keep the area outside your home clear for the removal van on moving day.

One to Two Days Ahead: Final Touches

  • Defrosting Time: Start defrosting your fridge & freezer. 
  • Dishwasher: Disconnect your dishwasher for transport.
  • Moving Day Essentials: Prepare a box with essentials like toilet roll, soap, pet food, & bedding.
  • Charge Up: Ensure your mobile phone & essential devices are charged.
  • Van Plans: Collect your hire van or confirm the schedule with your removal firm.
  • Box Location: Move all packed boxes to a downstairs room for easy access on moving day.

D-Day: All Aboard for the Move!

  • Secure Valuables: Set aside important documents & valuables for transport in your car.
  • Children & Pets: Ensure children & pets are safely out of the way.
  • Bedding & Curtains: Strip all bedding & curtains, placing them in clearly labelled bags for easy access.
  • Final Sweep: Complete a final clean of the house. Keep your vacuum cleaner & cleaning supplies readily available
  • Final Checks: Before the removal van departs, double-check that nothing has been left behind or packed incorrectly.
  • Storage Considerations: Avoid placing perishable, flammable, or hazardous substances in storage.
  • Contact Information: Ensure our team has directions to your new property & your contact details. 
  • Arrival Coordination: Agree on a time of arrival. 
  • Key Management: Drop off keys to your old home with the estate agent or arrange pick up with the new owner & ensure you have the keys to your new home for prompt unloading.
