HGV masons removals

For over 100 hundred years, Masons Moving Group has been a trusted removals company in Wales. Many families and business owners have relied on us  for moving house or for office relocation. We love what we do, we know how important our job is – and we’ve created a work environment where our team members have become family. In fact, many have been with us for more than 20 years!

Training, career growth and stellar customer service

We believe a big reason our team builds their careers with us, sometimes lifelong, is because we value their growth and want to see them reach their full potential. To achieve this, we invest in each member through ongoing training in line with the British Association of Removers (BAR), the most recognised trade association for moving companies.

Continuous training not only helps with career improvement, it also ensures we keep up with the high standards of the BAR so that all our clients receive stellar service that goes above and beyond. Our ongoing training includes manual handling, expert packing services and now our biggest investment yet – supporting a select group of internal team members with their advanced qualifications to take on the role as HGV (heavy goods vehicle) drivers.

UK short of 100 000 HGV drivers

It’s no secret that Europe is experiencing a shortage of HGV drivers, and in the UK, the situation is particularly dire, with a shortage of around 100 000 of these specialist drivers. There are several reasons for this shortage, from industry pay issues to drivers retiring and a lack of new recruits. There’s no denying that poor working conditions within the industry is also a major factor, making it an unattractive career prospect for many young adult workers.

New team members soon to be HGV qualified

Like many transport companies, the HGV driver shortage has undoubtedly affected us. In response, we looked within our team and decided to build on the existing talent. The Directors reached out to the internal teams and offered members the opportunity to become HGV drivers. It proved successful, and two outstanding team members have taken the leap towards attaining this qualification.

Anthony O’Brien

They are Anthony O’Brien (AKA O’B) who started working full-time at Masons Removals straight after his wedding on Monday 6th June and has already passed his exams, completed his training and hit the road fully trained and qualified. Well done O’B !

The other is Justyn Enticknap who is waiting on dates for his provisional licence and soon to be following in O’B’s footsteps! The practical exams are done through Big Wheelers, a top-rated HGV training school boasting the largest fleet of modern HGV training vehicles in South Wales!

Due to the nature of the job, the exams for an HGV licence are extremely hard to pass, but it has to be since these drivers operate incredibly large vehicles on the roads, up to 36 tonnes with the road train. The good news is all those who qualify with an HGV licence become sought-after in the job market and are almost guaranteed a long-term career in the industry.

The process isn’t easy – it’s costly and takes commitment, skill and time. For these reasons and more, we are extremely proud of O’B and Justyn, who have embarked on this challenging yet rewarding journey.
